BOG Produce Day 22nd August

[0]This year we are in Jedburgh Town Hall. There are a number of free car parks nearby, including two large ones just off the A68. The Town Hall is the Victorian building just above these two car parks. There is also space to offload things just next to the main entrance.

Inside, we'll be showing off Produce which members have grown this year, selling surplus produce, cakes etc. in aid of Farm Africa, with loads of other interesting displays. Kids will find plenty of great activities especially for them. There will be displays of Heritage varieties, potatoes grown from Potato Day seed, a selection of tomato varieties, opportunities to taste fruits, salad crops and tomatoes as well as gardening books for sale, displays on organic methods of weed and pest control and gardening advice ready for the asking! After all of this, there will be opportunities to sit down with a well-earned cup of tea, a cake or a scone and have a chat about gardening experiences this season.

It would be great if you could bring things along to help out.

Produce displays are the most important thing. It's not competitive; bring in whatever combination of produce or type of display you feel happy with. Information of the varieties, how easy they were to grow etc. would be useful to other members. There is a produce label available to downlaod at the bottom of the page. If things have fallen apart in the garden this year, you may want to enter the only competition- the BOG Catastrophe Cup.

If you've got more of certain crops than you know what to do with, bring along the surplus and donate it to the Farm Africa stall.

Robert Leetham is setting up a display of potatoes. So far he expects to have

First Early- Colleen, Vales Emerald

Second Early. Dobbies Asset, Gladstone, Cabaret, Edzell Blue, Catriona, Milva, Osprey, Cosmos, Wilja, Saxon

Main Crop- Verity, Ambo, Golden Wonder, Nicola, Dunbar Std., Melody, Saturna, Romano, Desiree, Arran Victory, Pentland Crown, Cara, Rudolph.

If you can add to this list, please contact Robert.

David Catt will be organising a display of tomato varieties and tasting of fruits, salad crops and tomatoes. If you can bring in material for this, please contact David.

Bill and Val Smith will be setting up a display of Heritage varieties (old varieties that are not available for sale as they did not make it onto the official EEC list). If you can help, please contact them directly or via secretary.

Roberta Carruthers will be organising our usual wonderful refreshments and contributions of cakes, scones etc. will be greatly appreciated. Cakes, preserves etc. will also be welcome on the Farm Africa stall.

Finally, it would be great if you could donate some of your time to help set up, man a stall for part of the day or help clear at the end. Please contact Judith Davison if you can help in this way.

The show will open to the public at 11.00 a.m. If you are bringing produce to display or other contributions, it would be helpful if these could be brought in from around 10.15 onwards.

Please print out and display a poster in your local shop, hall, community centre. There is also a flier which you may want to give out to friends.
