Hawick Rugby Club's Green Event - 7th March

A few weeks ago I was talked into taking a stall for BOG at this event, to be held at Hawick RFC's ground in Mansfield Road, Hawick on Saturday 7th March. If you missed Potato Day on Sunday you have a second chance to buy some seed potatoes, as I have 10 varieties that didn't sell out and I will be selling them on the BOG stand.

In addition to the Hawick v Melrose game,  there will be an interesting range of side shows in the Green Village.

Red squirrel as regular visitor

For the last couple of weeks a red squirrel has been a regular visitor to the peanut feeders in the garden. An attempt at a window hung feeder resulted in a very undignified fall from grace, which hasn't been repeated! As I was keen to keep the feeders in reasonable condition we've been putting nuts and other food out loose in the woodshed for the squirrel, and have had some splendid views of him eating quarered apple, hazelnuts in their shells and quantities of peanuts. The visit never lasts more than about half an hour, so other gardens are probably being visited as well.

The good news and the bad news

Had my first fresh greens of the year from the garden at the weekend. That was the good news.

The bad news was that the weight of snow had bent my purple sprouting broccoli so that the stems had buckled just above ground level. I salvaged some of the tops and enjoyed these - but I'm not sure how much of my crop will make it through to the proper time for cutting. Ah well - they were too densely planted anyway, and needed a bit of thining. :sigh:

Trying to get the most out of this website

A frustrating afternoon!

I messed around with photos of the new BOG bag for a while - and have added it into an image gallery of BOG products. I can add the BOG recipe book now I've done this - and other things as and when. Not sure that an image gallery is the best place - but its a start.

After some time spent typing in the content info - completely ignoring what Dave Coyle told me about preparing text in a word file first - I discovered it isn't possible to upload the newsletter, because it isn't in a suitable format.

What sort of berries are these?

A couple of years ago I picked up a plant at a BOG plant exchange, took it home and potted it on.  Although it was by the back door, last year the rabbits nibbled all the new shoots, and I got about  6 berries off it.
